The book which makes to feel love, art and history
Sivakamiyin Sabatham is one of the books i love so far. As I have very much interest towards bharatham while reading the book I just imagined myself as a Sivakami and so I could feel how she felt throughout the story. I am very much inspired by her role in this book. The book reveals the true beauty of ajanta cave paintings and its beautiful sculptures. The character Mahendravarma Pallavan is truly Vichitra veerar. He talks and acts accordingly. NarasimhaVarma Pallavan, Paranjothi, Nagananthi, Pulikesi, Satrugan & Gundotharan, Aayanar characters touched my heart . Super awesome. Everyone must read this book.

"Sivagamiyin sabatham" is a such an EXTRAORDINARY and EXCEPTIONALLY written in Tamil.
Many thanks to Kalki for bringing me the habit of reading books!!. When I was pursuing my Master's degree at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, it was happened to read Kalki's "PARTHIBAN KANAVU" (thanks for my room-mate a good reader then), ofcourse I started the novel by 7.10 pm as a short time pass until the dinner 7.30 pm. But I was trapped by his writing and I lost my dinner that night and finally put down the book after 12.00. I never thought of reading a full book before, but it had happened by his fascinating narrating of the story. I could visualize the scenes, characters ofcourse every instants delivered in the book and hailed by the surprise almost in every page. Immediately I bought his other books, ponniyin selvan and sivagamiyin sabatham they are astounded then I switched to similar kind of novels and grew frantic in reading. I always believe "A good book can change your life". I don't want to review these three books (Parthiban Kanavu, Sivagamiyin Sabatham and Ponniyin Selvan)because these three books are such an extraordinary and exceptionally written in Tamil. I've never been to Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuran or Vathapi, but now I feel like I've been there for long! I've never admired some one dancing Bharatham before, but I did when Sivagami danced in the Kanchi palace! I've never seen elephantry bulldozing a fort, but I did when Narasimhavarman's army attacked the Vathapi fort!I just Completed the First part only..Really a Fantastic one.Its the first novel which i read with Historical background..Author handled brilliantly..He described the Beauty of pallava Region. What a beautiful description about the Sculptures Of Ayanar and Dance Performance of his daughter Sivakami...In that Novel They Mentioned as the Real Happiness is Learning The Art..Its true Words. Iam really very happy to Read.

This is one of the book worth reading for a "TAMIL HISTORICAL NOVEL" .
Sivagamiyin sabatham is a historical adventure in my opinion which clearly briefs about art, dance, sculptures and historical incidents. Especially when Mahendravarman enters Vatapi as Vajrabahu from the hero side and Nilekesi enters Kanchi as Naganandhi from the villain side rises the expectations of reader. The end of the novel is an ultimate twist which reader would have never expected. The wonderful historical novel depicts the period of Pallavas in their Golden age. The concept of love between a common girl and a crown prince is awesome. The details provided regarding the sculptures, dance and Ajantha caves kindles our interest. One of the most beautiful books to show love as it happens(ed) in real life - that too from the perspective of either genders. Be it the initial days when Narasimhavarman longs to express his love to Sivagami or the instances when Sivagami "speaks" to the hero in her own dance style - each and every aspect is vividly portrayed. The best part is when Narasimhavarman gets to see Sivagami after his marriage - there can literally be no other way than Kalki's heart touching narration of both of their "love-pain". I really doubt even if any actor in any cinema can bring out the same feeling as when we read it. The climax scene when Sivagami starts dancing again and Narasimhavarman drops a tear while watching the dance - is surely to bring a tear to any MAN reading it..

The novel leaves the reader wondering,
The one line story is, ‘The Pallava prince avenges the Chalukya king who kidnapped his love, the dancer Sivakami.’ How did the Chalukya king manage to kidnap Sivakami, the Pallava prince’s lover, in the middle of a siege with the whole Pallava army watching? The answer to this is, Sivakami’s father – a gifted sculptor sneaks out of the Kanchi fort, with his daughter and willingly takes refuge with the Chalukya king because he is tricked in to believing that the Chalukya kings knows the secret of the permanent natural dyes used to create the Ajantha paintings! So great is the imaginary character’s desire to find out how the natural dyes were created in the 2nd century BC, that he walked out on his benefactor, in to enemy camp and thus offsetting a series of events in Kalki’s imagination!

One of the best novel in tamil.
Sivagamiyin Sabatham which means Sivagami's vow is a mega tamil historical novel written by veteran author Kalki Krishnamurthy in the year 1944. This novel is regarded as one of the best novel along with mega hit novel Ponniyin Selvan from the same author. This novel briefly talks about the Pallava dynasty and the ruling period of Pallavas. The basic plot revolves around the real life characters such as Mahendravarman, the emperor of Pallava dynasty, his son Narasimhavarman a.k.a Mamalla and Chalukya king Pulikesi. It grabs you to the historical time period of Pallava dynasty who ruled 1500 years ago in southern parts of India. It pulls you to see the cities Kanchi (Kanchipuram located in TamilNadu,India) and Vatapi (currently Badami located in Karnataka, India) of that time when Pallavas and Chalukyas ruled. It also involves the fictional characters starting from the main character of the story - Sivagami - the love interest of Narasimha , her father Aayanar who is a master sculptor (Chirpi in Tamil), Paranjothi who later becomes the chief commander of Pallava army and Naganandhi a.k.a Nilekesi (Twin brother of Pulikesi) who can be considered as the secret villain of the story.I enjoyed reading this novel from the beginning to the end since it makes you mesmerizing and stick to the historical period which you would have dreamt of. It varies from dance to art, spying to war and each part of the entire novel gives the thrilling moment to read on.

Overall, this is one of the book worth reading for a Tamil historical novel.
This historical novel is one of my favorite after Ponniyin Selvan. It is a historical adventure in my opinion which clearly briefs about art, dance, sculptures and historical incidents. Especially when Mahendravarman enters Vatapi as Vajrabahu from the hero side and Nilekesi enters Kanchi as Naganandhi from the villain side rises the expectations of reader. The end of the novel is an ultimate twist which reader would have never expected. The journey of Paranjothi as a normal villager to Paranjothiyar as the commander in chief of Pallava army speaks about the evolution of character in different parts of the story. The sequences such as love between Narasimha and Sivagami which is broken by the vow of Sivagami,Sivagami residing in the enemy state Vatapi under Chalukya king Pulikesi, Naganandhi turning situations like a fast moving snake really keeps the reader busy.

Every Tamilian should read his creation....
Worth Reading !!!! Every Tamilian should read his creation.... A wonderful creation by Kalki Krishnamurthy.About the epic: Till the end, Sivakami and Narasamiha King never spoken about His marriage with Bhuvanamahadevi. Sivakami and the emperor both behaved in a matured way. Sivakami's decision towards her rest of her life made me stunned. Yes, she has become a Saivite Saint.
